New Trailer: La La Land, Starring Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

The latest trailer for Damien Chazelle’s musical La La Land features Emma Stone singing about breaking into showbiz.

This movie not only pairs Stone with fellow stone-cold A-lister Ryan Gosling, but it’s also director Chazelle’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed Whiplash - one of the best American films of the last 10 years.

Indeed the filmmaker, who penned the La La Land screenplay, has carried on the musical theme which helped his last picture scoop three Oscars and earn $49 million from a $3.3 million budget.

Here’s the trailer for La La Land:

The new trailer show a highly stylised version of Los Angeles and features Gosling as a jazz pianist and Stone as a young actress. The story sees the duo fall in love only for their relationship to be threatened by their success.

Stone’s song which plays through out the preview is called ‘Audition’ and reads like a tribute to aspiring artists who ‘dream’ of making it big: “Here’s to the ones who dream. Foolish as they may seem. Here’s to the hearts that ache. Here’s to the mess we make.”

The supporting cast for the film includes singer/songwriter John Legend and star J.K. Simmons, who bagged an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his show-stopping performance in Whiplash.

La La Land will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31 and will land in theatres on December 16, 2016, where studio Lionsgate will be hoping it gets some awards attention.

Here’s an official synopsis:

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
