Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has reportedly landed the titular role in Relativity’s troubled The Crow reboot.
Following the production company’s bankruptcy - and the hiring, departure and re-hiring of director Corin Hardy – the movie is somehow still alive.
Now actor Momoa, who also plays Aquaman in Warner Bros.’ Justice League universe, has seemingly joined The Crow, which still doesn’t have a start or release date.
The powerful Hawaiian star posted a picture of himself and director Hardy enjoying a pint of Guiness on Instagram, along with the caption: “The only way to officially seal the deal as men Is a pint of black beauty. @guinness #sealthedeal #wearemarriednowf-cker. #greatnewstocome. #dreamjob #cantwaittotelltheworld”.
Following that post, Mashable confirmed the actor is in advanced talks over the role of comic book goth hero Erik Draven, aka, The Crow.
Momoa joins a huge list of actors who have been attached to The Crow reboot, including Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Nicholas Hoult and Jack Huston. Welsh actor Evans and Boardwalk Empire star Huston were signed to the reboot for a considerable amount of time, but both left of their own volition – with the former stating that he was done waiting around for the production to get started.
The movie is an adaptation of James O’Barr’s graphic novel centering on rock musician Draven, who rises from the dead to seek revenge on the thuggish gangsters who killed he and his girlfriend. Director Alex Proyas previously adapted the subject matter in 1994, with Brandon Lee (son of 70’s martial arts icon Bruce Lee) in the lead.
Lee was tragically killed on set in 1993, following an accident involving a blank-firing gun. The popularity of Proyas’ film is a big reason why there is interest in the reboot, although Hardy’s version will reportedly be more faithful to the graphic novel rather than a remake of the first film.
Filmmaker Hardy made his name with horror movie The Hallow, which premiered at Sundance in 2015 and was warmly received by critics.
Stay tuned for more The Crow developments.
