Canon 5D MK IV Specifications Leak Out Onto The Net

By Danny F. Santos (doddleNEWS)

Canon’s EOS 5D camera sparked a filmmaking revolution when the MK II was released back in 2008. It was replaced with the MK III four years ago, and now the camera is about ready for a major refresh.

As the current camera gets long in the tooth, the Canon 5D MK IV is expected to launch sometime during the Five Graphy event in Japan, which runs between August 27, 2016 through to September 11, 2016. Canon Rumors has got their hands on some technical specifications, detailed below.

Canon 5D MK IV Specifications (still considered a rumor):

  1. 30mp
  2. Compact Flash/SD Card Slots (No CFast)
  3. 24/30fps @ 4K
  4. 60fps @ 1080
  5. 120fps @ 720
  6. USB 3
  7. Cable release port moved to the front of the camera where the “Mark XX” badge was.
  8. A lot more touchscreen functionality than the EOS-1D X Mark II
  9. Other ergonomic changes, such as a new “locking switch” on the rear of the camera.

The site also had an image of the camera but was pulled — most likely due to a request from Canon. However, the internet has its resources and you can get your first look at the camera here.

Some of these features were expected, like the ability to shoot 4K, a larger sensor, and USB, but it’s surprising that the camera doesn’t support CFast cards. Obviously this isn’t a full list, and we should be hearing more about this camera as we approach its launch.

Here are some of the other things I would like to see in this camera that are all but certain: A higher ISO count of at least 51,200, since the current MK III only has a range of 100 to 25,600. Tilt screens are all but standard in this day and age, so expect that to be added to the Canon 5D MK IV, as well.

The camera will probably have improved focusing features and it’s expected to have a new processor, too. Most likely the DIGIC 6+ chip from the Canon 1D X Mark II or a DIGIC 7 processor from the PowerShot G7 X II. Finally, expect to see both WiFi or GPS on the MK IV, which Canon has added to other cameras in their line of DSLRs.

The Canon EOS 5D MK IV is expected to be announced at the end of August, and is rumored to retail for $3299 USD, which is about $200 less than what the MK III launched for. Take that with a grain of salt, however, because pricing could have fluctuated with the currencies market.
