The castle is at the top of one of the lovliest, and oldest, streets in the world, known as The Royal Mile, which runs between the castle,at the top of the hill, spreading down to the Palace of Holyrood House at the bottom.The Sherwood is a fully renovated Edwardian 'B' listed building. Built in 1832 it retains most of the original features and character ( but with modern heating and plumbing ) of a Georgian town house. In those days Newington was the up and coming suburb for the fairly well to do merchants in Edinburgh. The house was first registered to a young lady, the daughter of a tea merchant which was a bold move for it's day.
