About Us

A brewery and public house was first established on this site more than 600 years ago but newly renovated 'Thirsty Scholar' opened in 2011 so rescuing this historic inn from closure by a large brewery. It is now a Free House managed by the Owners. An open fire, slate and wood floors with timber beams and panelling maintain the ancient tradition of the building, whilst a newly fitted kitchen, bar and bathrooms help to ensure the levels of comfort and service that we would seek for ourselves.The ... Morerooms are warm and comfortable with fresh, cotton bed linen, soft towels and cleanly tiled en suite shower rooms. TV and teacoffee making facilities are included.Food is an important part of our hospitality and in addition to English Breakfast, we serve both lunch and supper every day. Our menu is simple using home-cooked local meat, fish and seasonal vegetables. If you woud like soomething to order that is not on our menu, we will be pleased to source and cook it for you whenever possible.Outside we have three sheltered terraces and a garden, with a covered area and views to Penryn River and beyond.
